Frequently Asked Questions

Invisalign is an excellent treatment option for those who want straight teeth without the use of traditional metal braces. You can achieve the same results without the issues posed by metal braces. Invisalign is virtually invisible and no one will know that you are using these devices. Desertview Dental Care can help you learn more about Invisalign treatment to see if it is right for you.

Who is a candidate for Invisalign?

Most anyone can be a candidate for Invisalign treatment. It does not matter your age or if you have had traditional braces in the past. However, there are some limitations to Invisalign. If a patient has severe misalignment and malocclusions, they are not a good candidate for Invisalign. The aligner trays will not be able to give that person the best results. It also cannot correct extreme bite issues or help with jaw alignment problems. People who have those problems in addition to misaligned teeth need to correct those with traditional orthodontia.

Invisalign is an excellent alternative to braces for those that meet the criteria. Desertview Dental Care can meet with you to see if you are a good candidate and get you started with your treatment.

How long does Invisalign treatment take?

Approximately every two weeks, patients using Invisalign clear aligners will get a new tray to use. Each tray helps move the teeth into their next position. When the patient completes their series of trays, the teeth should be straight and in their final positions.

The duration of Invisalign treatment can vary depending on several factors, including the complexity of the orthodontic issues being addressed and the individual's response to treatment. However, on average, Invisalign treatment typically takes about 12 to 18 months for adults. For teenagers, the duration may be similar or slightly longer.

Is Invisalign treatment painful?

Invisalign treatment is generally considered to be less painful than traditional braces because it doesn't involve metal brackets and wires that can irritate the mouth and cause discomfort.

When you first start wearing a new set of aligners, you may feel pressure on your teeth as they gradually shift into the desired position. This pressure is a sign that the aligners are working to move your teeth and is usually temporary.

How often do I need to wear my Invisalign aligners?

To achieve the results needed from each aligner tray, patients need to wear their aligners for 20 to 22 hours each day. So, in essence, meals and while brushing and flossing, are the only times a patient should remove their aligners.

Can I eat and drink with Invisalign?

Patients should remove their aligners to eat and while drinking anything that is not water. Chewing could put too much stress on the trays, and colored liquids will cause the aligners to turn colors. To preserve your trays, you have to take them out for meals, and while drinking coffee or wine. Be sure to put your aligners back in after you are finished with meals.
